The Game Changer: A Parkwood Mystery by Jennifer Brown is a fun read, full of adventure and mystery. If you love the Aurora Teagarden series, this book is for you!
Ex crime reporter, Hollis, leaves the windy city and takes on a job as the local journalist in Parkwood, Missouri. With a slower pace style of living, she is downright bored reporting on the towns new bank and department store. Luckily for her, she happens to be at the right place at the right time and stumbles upon a crime scene involving the rival cities high school football couch. New to town and the police force, Officer Brooks is assigned to "babysit" Hollis when she starts her own investigation and begins to accuse the police chief’s son of murder. Little do they know they are about to embark on an adventure to catch a killer, and maybe even open their hearts to one another along the way.
I read the novel in one evening and it did not disappoint. I was left on the edge of my seat with each chapter ending and couldn't wait to find out "whodunnit". I am thrilled this book was a start of a series because I can’t wait to see what happens next in Parkwood. I am hopeful the author will still be featuring the same characters in book 2. I enjoyed all the characters, and especially loved Hollis's best friend Daisy.
The only negative I have about the story is some of the banter between supporting characters was lengthy. I didn't feel like they were needed and didn't provide me with any information or details of the story.
Overall, I would give this novel 5 out of 5 stars. Although, I felt there was a bit too much dialogue at some moments, I would not let that deter you from not reading this novel. It was a fantastic start to the Parkwood Mystery series!
