It thrilled me when Author Gail Aldwin asked me to be a part of her blog tour! I'm ecstatic I got to read This Much Huxley Knows! This story is everything the tag line says. "A Story of Innocence, Misunderstandings, and Acceptance."
These past 2 years I have stepped outside my "romance reading box" and I'm so glad I did. I have read some great stories. This Much Huxley Knows is no exception.
The story is delightfully written from the perspective of 7-year-old, Huxley. It touches on everything from racism, politics, marital issues, and so much more, seen through his eyes. I'm not his age (obviously) but I imagine how he reacts to things would be how a 7 year old would. Kudos to the author for being able to write so well from that age range. I'm sure it would be difficult, but she does a fantastic job.
Huxley is an ADORABLE character. I wanted to reach through the pages and give him a hug. He is charming, funny, and pretty bright for such a young boy. I won't give much away, but I especially enjoyed when he tried to sound out words. Read the book to find out what I mean :-) This is a character driven novel, and Ms. Aldwin gave each one their own personality, even if it only graced the pages for a paragraph.
I would give this novel 5 out of 5 stars. Some chapters may make you laugh, sad, or even kind of angry. But, doesn't that make up a well rounded, and great story? I think so!
