Ales, Agents and Alchemy by Jabe Stafford is a exciting new release filled with booze, monsters and mystery! Honestly, if those 3 words don't hook you I don't know what will :-)
This novel follows Ryne, who is hunting for his sister's killer. He thinks he knows, but how does he prove that the owner of America's favorite pub and creator of their delicious ale killed her? Teaming up with his sister- in- law, Ryne perfects his own ale, in hopes to expose the killer. The only problem- Ryne has to keep himself out of jail, the target off his back, and not be taken down by his own brew in the process.
Let me start off by saying this novel is not my typical read. I promised myself I would step outside my "reading box" this year and try some new genres. This one definitely is different, but I am sooo glad I read it! Although I don't read this genre often, I can almost guarantee you won't find a similar plot to this novel out there. The authors imagination and the originality of the storyline impressed me. I particularly liked that I could follow along easily, although it is a fast-paced read. The author did a wonderful job at giving detail, that I wasn't flipping back the pages after taking a short break from reading, just to try to remember where I left off, and what was going on. It can happen in a fast-paced read.
The only part I didn't enjoy was how much of a jerk Ryne was at the beginning. I felt he could have been a bit softer, but I guess if I was dealing with what he was I would be a a** too. He redeemed himself for me later in the book, so it worked out. I am glad I kept reading.
I would give this story 4 out of 5 stars. If you want an original story full of excitement, mystery, booze, and a changeup from your "normal genres", this is a good place to start!
