The Conclave by S.C Eston is a perfect read for anyone who enjoys Fantasy novels!
The story follows Onthar, a dedicated warrior who is determined to find out who betrayed his city. He calls upon queens, wizards, creatures, and any "being" that will help in his quest for justice. Finding out who the traitor is could cost him everything.
Confession time! I haven't read many fantasy novels until a few months ago. Recently, my brother got me involved in playing Dungeons and Dragons. I'm not very good at it, but I enjoy the fantasy aspect, which made this novel even more enjoyable for me to read. Who knew?! I HIGHLY suggest if you play D&D, read this novel.
I appreciated how each chapter introduced or was written around one particular character. The main character, Onthar, always made a "cameo", but the reader gets to learn about each supporting roles temperament. As you continue to read through the story, it is hard to put down. You are immersed in a fantasy world, but the novel also gives you a touch of mystery. I tried to figure out who the traitor was right along with Onthar.
The author does a wonderful job at writing tension. I could feel the love or hatred among the characters, and the banter was intriguing. The first 100 pages had me wondering when a fight would break out in the room.
This novel has heavy dialogue, which is not a negative, by any means. The author does a fantastic job at keeping you interested through the conversation.
I would give this novel 4 out of 5 stars. The reason it lost a star is that I believe the prelude and prologue at the beginning weren't really needed. While it gave information regarding a few characters, it wasn't necessary. That is not me saying to not read this book. Everything else was interesting and written well.
