Love, Unscripted by Owen Nicholls was a quirky and delightful read.
Nick is a hopeless romantic who loves comparing his life to movies. When his relationship with Ellie fails and his life starts to unravel, he looks back at the "script" of his life, trying to figure out what went wrong.
The novel is told from Nick's point of view and I will be honest, I typically don't love romance novels told from the guys perspective. This one pleasantly surprised me. I thought the author did a nice job at making Nick's character relatable. But I still would have liked to have some of the story told from Ellie's perspective.
The narrative goes back and forth from past to present, which can be difficult to read. I think the author did a decent job at making the distinctions, but the reader will need to pay attention.
The idea behind the story is sweet and I enjoyed the movie references throughout. It was excessive at times but fit the plot. Nick's character is quirky so some of the comments and comparisons will make you laugh. Who doesn't want that?!
I would give this novel 3 out of 5 stars. I would recommend this story, but I think I would have appreciated this novel more if it had been told from Ellie's point of view.
