Of Magpies and Men by Ode Ray is exactly how it's described in the title. This novel is gripping, witty, and an emotional page turner. The author hit that right on the head!
The novel follows two completely different people, living in two different worlds. But when two bodies wash ashore, their worlds collide in an unexpected turn of events.
Let me start by saying, this cover spoke to me. I can't put my finger on why, but it somehow pulled me in with its interesting artwork. Maybe it was the mystery behind it. I immediately wanted to read this novel.
I am usually not a fan of prologues, but I always read them. I'm sure glad I read this one! I don't get to say this often in my reviews, but the prologue hooked me. Ms. Ray writes beautifully, and her intricate story telling is something I see in authors who have written multiple novels. It impressed me to learn this was a debut novel. The characters are complex, but relatable. The story offers everything I LOVE in a book. You can't go wrong with mystery, drama, humor, and romance!
I would give this novel 5 out of 5 stars. It is a page turner, and I couldn't put it down. CONFESSION.... I read it in one night. Congrats to the Ms. Ray on her debut novel. I look forward to seeing what else she publishes in the future.
