Captivating YA Novel That Will Have You Hooked From The Start!

The Deception by S.K. Way is a well-written YA novel, sure to have any reader hooked from the very first page. At the end of the Amazon page for this book it reads “it will have you devouring the pages for more”. Well, the author’s were correct!

The novel follows multiple characters as they face challenges on an unfamiliar Island. I was picturing Hunger Games while reading, but the author’s originality on writing the twists, turns and suspense set it apart. I rarely enjoy reading first person present novels. I just never liked how they read. However, the authors did a wonderful job at keeping me enthralled with the plot and characters that I didn’t notice, and wanted to keep reading.

Each chapter in this novel is from a different character point of view. The authors did a fabulous job at making each character unique and relatable. Although you are reading each chapter from a distinct character, the story progresses nicely and there is no lull in excitement.

I would give this story 4 out of 5 stars. The ONLY reason I didn’t give 5 is because of the first person present tense writing style. While it was well- written, personally, I have a more hard time enjoying a novel with that writing tense. That is not a knock, AT ALL, on this novel. And I still highly suggest any reader pick it up who enjoys mystery, suspense, and is a huge fan of the Hunger Games.
