Thorns by Morgan Ray is book 2 in the Bramble series. And just like book 1, Thorns will captivate readers until the very end.
First let me say, you have to read book 1 to understand book 2. Thorns picks up right where Brambles ends, and you will be confused if you haven't read the first book. The good news is you want to read Brambles because it is a page turner!
Thorns digs deeper into the life of Sidney and the choices that faces her. Who does she save and who does she let die? Oh and the question on my mind, who does she marry to break the curse?! I was pleased how Ray dug deeper into the back stories of each character, and we get further explanation into the curse and Sidney's lineage. Thorns is a thrill ride, with twists and turns at every page.
The only negative, I felt, was taking Sidney's character and making her "characteristics" beyond what the story needed. I enjoyed reading her back story, and I won't give spoilers, but there was no need to add so much more to her traits. I understand that can add more excitement and further the plot, but I didn't think it was necessary to keep the story moving. I was unaware of those particular traits in Bramble, and it was still an enthralling book.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. Thorns is a well-written, and a wonderful sequel to Brambles. I can't wait to read Thicket, which is book 3. So far, this series does not disappoint.
