Beginning by Nora Edington is a beautifully written love story that packs some heat.
The story follows Jenny, a sheltered and ambitious young woman. When her friend insists she join her on a summer at the lake, Jenny's intentions are to take some time away, and study for her medical exam. The universe has other plans. It will be a summer she won't forget, filled with experiences she never dreamed she would have.
I have read too many novels to count where the main character is naive, she meets a bad boy and they fall in love. This story may come off like that from the blurb, but I am here to tell you there is more to it than that. Yes, Jenny is young and naive, but the author does a wonderful job at giving her character depth. I wouldn't really consider Ray "a bad boy". I would call him experienced, which isn't a bad thing. I loved how the author made him respectful, but irresistible. It was refreshing to read and well done.
There is heat and passion between the two characters, but it is tastefully written.
I did not like the character Leah. For being a best friend, she stunk up the room! I understand the point of making her and Jenny very different people, but I would have liked to see Leah more well rounded and wholesome. At times, it was a bit unbelievable that Jenny would be friends with someone like her.
Overall, I would give this story 5 out of 5 stars. Don't let the blurb fool you! The story has wonderful depth and characters for being a contemporary romance. It pulls out all the feels, which I LOVE...LOVE. I hope the next book in the series continues on with Jenny and Ray's love story.
