A Passionate Play by Jessica Lauryn is a perfect story for readers who enjoy romance, suspense, and mystery.
The story follows Alicia, a theater singer/actress who experiences a terrible accident, resulting in her losing her memory. When she wakes up in a strange house, with a strange man, she struggles to figure out who she is and how to escape. But her captor knows her, and she can't figure out how. A series of dreams leads her to confusing and shocking assumptions. Could her captor be her lover?
I thoroughly enjoyed Alicia's character. She is driven and deep. The character was relatable, and the author did a fantastic job at writing her. Nick, the agent and former boyfriend, is a decent guy, but I didn't like him at first. The good news is that he redeems himself, and I thought his character arc was spot on, which can only attribute to good writing. The passion and heat between the characters jump off the page and leave the reader rooting for them. The banter between them was exciting, and had a lot of emotion.
I loved how Ms. Lauryn added in the mystery and "whodunnit" elements. I read this novel in one night. I am a sucker for romantic suspense novels. This story packs in all the love, and twists and turns, that is sure to keep any reader engaged. You will be hooked after chapter 1. The story slow a bit in the middle, but I didn't mind. I welcome getting to know the characters and backstories.
Overall, I would give this story 5 out of 5 stars. If you are into love stories that keep you on the edge of your seat, this one is for you!
